A MAN has died after being hit by a train near Chester-le-Street station.
The British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the station at 3.25pm today after reports of a person being struck.
The death is not being treated as suspicion and a report is due to be prepared for the coroner. The man has not yet been identified.
A spokesman for the BTP said: “We were called to Chester-le-Street station at 3.25pm on Tuesday, 16 December, following reports of a person being struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Durham Constabulary and North East Ambulance Service also attended, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and our officers are now working to identify the deceased man and inform his family.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
