Man charged with murder of Washington stab victim

A MAN has been charged with the murder of a 20-year-old in Washington.

Andrew Lucas, originally from Hebburn, was found with fatal stab wounds by ambulance crews on a tree-lined path near his home in Warkworth Close.

Paramedics tried in vain to save him, but he died shortly after being rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sheriff Hill, Gateshead.

Mark Spalding, 45, of Washington, was arrested by police and was charged with his murder last night.

He was due to appear before Sunderland magistrates today.

Leading the investigation DCI Christina Barrett said: “We are still asking for people with information about this offence to come forward.”
