A MAN was due to appear in court today charged with the murder of a 24-year-old woman.
Gemma Finnigan’s body was found at a flat in Church View, Boldon Colliery, on Friday morning. She was declared dead at the scene.
Daniel William Johnson, 32, of the same address, has been charged with murder and is due to appear before South Tyneside Magistrates Court today.
Detectives investigating her death are also appealing for information about the movements of a black Corsa.
Police believe the car – which has the registration DG52 ZGK – was driven in areas between Boldon Colliery and Kenton in Newcastle between 3.30am and 6.45am on Friday.
The vehicle has been recovered by officers who want to hear from anyone who may have seen it either being driven or parked up during this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Barron said: “The roads are likely to have been very quiet during the early hours of Friday morning and we would ask anyone who was out in these areas during that period to think back as to whether they may have seen this vehicle.
“We are also still appealing for anyone who saw Gemma during the 24-hour period before she died, or who was in contact with her between Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13. And we are also asking for anyone who was in the area of Church View over that same period who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to call police straightaway.”
