Police say a Peterlee man, 23, was later arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He was questioned by police and given a caution.

It is understood the weapon involved was a BB gun.

It has since been seized and will be destroyed.

A Durham Police spokesman said: “Police would like to reassure the community in Peterlee that there was no threat to the wider public and the incident has now been resolved.”
