Man appears in court following suspected stabbing in Sunderland

A man has appeared in court following a suspected stabbing incident in Sunderland.

At around 3am on Wednesday, police received a report that a 29-year-old man had been assaulted at an address in Tel-El-Kebir Road in Hendon.

The victim, who had allegedly been stabbed in the neck, was taken to hospital by paramedics with an injury which was serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Police later arrested a man at an address in nearby Tower Street West at around 5.40am.

He was then charged by officers.

Daniel Brian Sayers, 34, of no fixed abode, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and possession of a pointed article.

No pleas were entered and Sayers was remanded in custody.

He will appear before Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, August 31.
