Man, 19, remains in custody over Roker Park rape incident

A teenager continues to be quizzed by detectives today after being arrested in connection with an alleged rape in Sunderland.

Northumbria Police said it received a report of concern for a woman in Roker Park Road shortly before 5.30am on Tuesday.

Officers attended the scene and a woman told officers that she had been raped in the park.

An investigation was launched and a section of the park cordoned off.

A 19-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident remains in custody today, a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police has confirmed.

Anyone who was in the area this morning and who saw or heard anything is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 108 29/11/16.
