Man, 18, taken to RVI with leg injury after being hit by car in Sunderland

A TEENAGER has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a car in a busy Sunderland road.

It happened in Durham Road next to Barnes Roundabout shortly after 8am.

The 18-year-old man is believed to have been hit by a black Vauxhall Astra.

He suffered a leg injury.

Emergency services rushed to the scene with paramedics taking the man to the RVI in Newcastle for treatment.

Four police cars along with officers were still at the crash site some time after, with Durham Road reduced to one lane.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “A 8.35am on Tuesday police received a report of a collision in Durham Road.

“Officers attended along with the ambulance service.

“The collision involved a Vauxhall Astra and an 18-year-old man.

“The teenager has been taken to the RVI for treatment to a leg injury.”
