Lumley seize the opportunity to take control of title race

An excellent 4-1 win for Lumley A at home to Mill View A saw them go top of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League Division Two, level on points with their opponents.

Paul Stoves won a close first frame before Martin Ball won the second.

Paul Nord increased the lead winning the third frame, before Peter Davies pulled one back for Mill View.

In the pairs, Martin Ball/Paul Stoves won a close frame, beating Kevin Alderson/Dan Alderson for the win.

The Victory had an excellent 4-1 win at home to Pennywell Comrades with only the second frame escaping them.

Mill View B had an excellent 5-0 win at home to Cheemas, thanks to Adrian Daniel, Lee Dixon, John Spruce and Steve Chandler.

In the pairs, breaks of 22 and 26 by Adrian Daniel, when paired with Norman Brown, helped win the frame 75-16 for the clean sweep.

Seaham Conservatives edged to a 3-2 win when they hosted The Railway.

Murton Officials travelled to Murton Colliery and had an excellent 4-1 win.

In Division One, the match between first placed South Hylton and second placed Washington Snooker A was postponed due to a shortage of players for Washington, but this gave the other teams a chance to close the gap.

Glendale stormed to a 5-0 win over third placed Lumley B, courtesy of Liam Irving, Tommy Gwyn, Marc Smithson and a shortage of Lumley players gave Glendale the fourth.

John Danby/Paul Atkinson won a close pairs frame, beating Richie Tiffin/Brian Meuse 58-47 to complete the whitewash.

Biddick A took the first two frames away to Whitburn with Steven Tate and Terry Froud winning.

A 25 break helped Jason Rodgers pull one back for Whitburn, before Tony Hazard levelled the match.

John Smith/Adam Parker completed the comeback when they defeated Graham Smith/Rod Turnbull in the pairs for a 3-2 win for Whitburn.

Sadly, the match between Biddick B and Green Baize was postponed due to a shortage of Baize players.

The match between Washington Snooker B and Steels was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Steels took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.
