Loved ones in South Tyneside remembered with special tree lighting event

People in South Tyneside are being given an opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one at a Christmas remembrance service.

St Clare’s Hospice, based in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, is hosting a Tree of Lights evening on Sunday, December 11.

During the event a tree will be illuminated with lights symbolising the lives of those cherished and remembered.

The tree will remain lit until New Year’s Day.

The annual event is being sponsored this year by Co-op Funeralcare and will include carols and readings as well as the illumination service.

The service is spilt into two sections with surnames beginning with the letters A-M starting at 4.30pm and those surnames beginning N-Z commencing at 6pm.

Dawn Noble, manager at Co-op Funeralcare, said: “We recognise the importance of remembering loved ones especially at Christmas time and the Tree of Light celebration at St Clare’s Hospice is a very special way of honouring their memories.”

Vanessa Middleton, Fundraising Manager at St Clare’s Hospice, said “On behalf of St. Clare’s I’d just like to thank Co-op for their support in sponsoring Tree of Lights.

Tree of lights is a special way of remembering our loved ones and is an important part of fundraising with our local community providing fantastic support which means we can continue to care for those who need our services.”

Proceeds from the event will be allocated to St Clare’s Hospice, which provides care and support for people with life limiting illnesses.

The Hospice has an eight bedded in patient facility which offers not only end of life care but also a respite service, day centre unit and a range of complementary therapies.
