Lorry driver trapped when an oncoming HGV sheds its load.
Specialised emergency fire crews were called to Nissan Way in Washington where the incident happened at around 2pm today.
Les Tough, watch manager at Washington Fire Station, said as one of the lorries was rounding a corner, the heavy metal load fell out of the side of the truck onto the cab of the lorry travelling in the opposite direction, trapping the driver inside.

Hide AdHe said: "The load was obviously very heavy so we had to use our specialised lifting equipment.
"The man was trapped by his legs and in a lot of pain, paramedics administered pain relief while he was still trapped."
Crews from Washington, Marley Park, Hebburn and South Shields were all called to the scene to assist in the rescue.
The man was released from the cab of his truck and taken to the RVI in Newcastle believed to be suffering from hip and lower leg injuries

Hide AdBoth HGV delivery trucks were believed to be carrying parts to and from the Nissan factory when the accident happened. The driver whose lorry shed its load was uninjured.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said the incident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
