HE may be hot property on the pitch but in-demand Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet failed excite online bidders.
Mignolet – valued at £10m by SAFC and wanted by Liverpool – put his protective cup under the virtual hammer to raise funds for the Foundation of Light.
But the cup, which signed by the Belgian international, only attracted two bids and went for just £21 on eBay.
It fared better than substitute goalie Keiren Westwood’s protective cup, which failed to attract a single bid.
They were listed in the auction alongside other sports items including boots signed by SAFC players John O’Shea, David Vaughan, Craig Gardner and James McClean, and shirts signed by the whole 2012/13 SAFC team.
An athletics top, signed by Team USA Olympic medallists, and a boxing glove signed by Sunderland-born Olympic medallist Tony Jeffries were also among the listed items.
