LIVE updates as three crews called to large fire at allotments in Southwick
Firefighters are at the scene of an allotment fire in Sunderland, as families living nearby are urged to keep their doors and windows shut.
Crews from Sunderland Central and Marley Park stations were called at around 12.05pm to reports of a blaze at an allotment site, at Southwick Road and Keir Hardie Way in the city. 1.50pm: Update from firefighters at the scene
A member of the fire service crew spoke to Echo reporter Ryan Smith at the scene.
He confirmed that mixed rubbish had caught fire and that there were cylinders within the allotment site. Crews were withdrawn from the blaze for a short time but the cylinders were deemed not to be a risk.
Work is ongoing at the scene to extinguish the fire, as crews head back down to the site of the blaze.

A spokeswoman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service issued an update to the Echo at around 2.30pm on Friday.
It said: "We currently have crews from Sunderland Central, Marley Park, South Shields, Hebburn and Gateshead at a fire at allotments at an allotment site, at Southwick Road and Keir Hardie Way.
"Crews arrived at 12:05pm and the incident is currently ongoing. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using a hose reel and main jet to extinguish the blaze.
“There does appear to be a lot of smoke in the area. We originally thought pigeon crees were involved but this is not the case.”

*Three crews - two from Sunderland Central and one from Marley Park - were initially called out. These were later joined by two additional crews.
*TWFRS confirms that firefighters from Sunderland Central, Marley Park, South Shields, Hebburn and Gateshead are in attendance.
*The blaze is at an allotment site at Southwick Road and Keir Hardie Way in Sunderland.
*A member of the crew at the scene tells the Echo that a quantity of mixed rubbish had caught fire, and that there were also some cylinders on the site. These were deemed to be safe, so crews continued with their efforts to extinguish the blaze.
*Smoke could be seen miles away from the scene of the fire, with families in the area urged to keep doors and windows closed.
*As of 3pm, work was still underway to put the blaze out.
