Little Ella raises over £1,000 for charity in honour of nana who is battling Multiple Sclerosis

Ella Williams, who is five today, collected £1,105 cash in sponsorships by taking part in this year’s Mini Great North Run,

Ella wanted to give the money to the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society after her nana, Janice Ellwood, was diagnosed with the condition in May.

MS is a neurological condition, which affects about 100,000 people in the UK.

Ella’s mum Rachael Williams, from Harton Village, South Shields, said: “Ella knows my mam has this condition and she wanted to try and help to make her nana better.

“So we thought it would be great if she was sponsored to take part in the run.

“We’re all delighted by how much she raised and she loved taking part too.”

She added: “She ran the course with her dad Billy. All of the family is so proud of her.”

Rachael wants to say a big thanks to colleagues of her father, David Ellwood, at the Pyeroy Wood Group in Scotland for the donations they came up with.

She said: “We never thought Ella would manage tor raise this much, but my dad’s workmates have been brilliant and so generous.

“It’s because of them the amount is so high.”

Now the family are focused on raising more cash in next year’s run.

By then, it’s hoped little brother Jack, who is two, will also be able to take part.

Rachael added: “We’ll defiantly be doing it again next year and Jack should be old enough to get involved to.”
