Now regarded as one of the region's best up and coming bands, they have released six singles and an EP, and have just finished their second UK tour.

Today it was announced they will join Yorkshire indie-rock Kaiser Chiefs and Irish rock band Kodaline at the charity gig which has been organised as the climax of GNR weekend.

The gig is raising money for the Graham Wylie Foundation, the Teenage Cancer Trust and music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins, with every penny raised staying in the region.

Matty Varty, the lead singer of Lisbon said: “This is going to be one of those bucket list gigs where we get to fulfil a massive dream of ours.

"To be playing the biggest venue in Newcastle, and representing such important causes whilst doing so is really quite special.

“We can’t wait to put on one of the best shows this city has ever seen, and I’m sure alongside Kaiser Chiefs and Kodaline we can do that.”

Angie Jenkison, chief executive of the Graham Wylie Foundation, said: “As all the money raised is staying in the North East, it is important that the young, vibrant music scene of the area is represented and Lisbon is definitely one of the best.

"I’m sure they will bring some fantastic Geordie energy to the party."

Launched last month by entrepreneur Graham Wylie, co-founder of The Sage Group plc, the Foundation is one of the few charities anywhere in the world to hand 100% of the money raised to deserving causes.

Wylie is meeting all running, staff and administration costs to ensure every penny raised and donated goes to help, inspire and educate vulnerable and underprivileged children across the region.

Tickets for Run, Rock n Raise, priced £25 and £35, are available now from the Arena box office, the booking hotline 0844 493 6666, or online from www.metroradioarena.co.uk.
