The National Trust’s Souter Lighthouse at Whitburn opens for the season on Saturday and will be open every day until the end of November.

Half-term craft activities kick off the year’s packed events programme and families can drop in between 11am and 4pm to get creative.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday kids can make a bird box while on Tuesday and Thursday they can build a miniature working lighthouse.

The sessions are suitable for children aged three and over and cost £3 per activity.

News of the rest of the year’s events – including a celebration of World Book Day, a kite festival, wildlife walks, a marine wildlife roadshow and pirate themed fun days – can be found online at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/souterlighthouseandtheleas.

Following work over the winter to carry out much needed repairs to the historic Lantern Room, the scaffolding is now down and the top of the lighthouse restored to its former glory.
