Lighthouse is ready to open for new season

Souter Lighthouse ready to open its doors to the first visitors of the year.

The National Trust’s Souter Lighthouse at Whitburn opens for the season on Saturday and will be open every day until the end of November.

Half-term craft activities kick off the year’s packed events programme and families can drop in between 11am and 4pm to get creative.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday kids can make a bird box while on Tuesday and Thursday they can build a miniature working lighthouse.

The sessions are suitable for children aged three and over and cost £3 per activity.

Following work over the winter to carry out much needed repairs to the historic Lantern Room, the scaffolding is now down and the top of the lighthouse restored to its former glory.

Simon Colvine, operations manager at Souter Lighthouse said: “The Lantern Room is looking great after its winter facelift.

“We’re thrilled that visitors will be able to climb the tower to enjoy the amazing views from the top once again.”
