A CABIN cruiser had to be towed back in to Sunderland marina after it broke down.

One of the three people on board the small boat called 999 with a mobile phone at 9.30pm yesterday after the vessel’s engine failed.

HM Coastguard asked for the RNLI to launch one of its rescue boats to help the crew, with the stricken cruiser drifting a short distance away from the charity’s base.

A tow line was thrown to the crew, about half a mile off the north east of Roker Pier, and they were assisted back to safety.
