Library cuts fight goes on

MORE than 8,000 people have signed up to fight plans to slash the opening hours of three County Durham libraries.

Protestors fighting the plans in Belmont have already handed in a petition containing 2,000 signatures,

Now campaigners from Newton Hall have collected 1,000 names, while 5,000 people have signed up in Consett.

Altogether, the county council plans to cut opening hours at 11 town centre and 27 community libraries in a bid to save £1.5million.
