WEARSIDERS are being urged to turn out and support hundreds of charity fund-raisers as they take the plunge.
Around 1,300 people have registered to take part in this year’s Boxing Day Dip at Seaburn.
The event is organised by Sunderland Lions Club, and president Anne Fielding is hoping there will be a massive show of support from spectators.
“I would like to think that the people of Sunderland will go down to the seafront to cheer on these wonderful people who are raising thousands of pounds for charity and helping those less fortunate than themselves,” she said.
“As this is the biggest dip in the country, it deserves all the support possible. Sunderland Lions Club would like to acknowledge the help given by Sunderland Live, Seaburn Leisureworld, who provided the magnificent banner, and the Seaburn Marriott for the new trophy.”
Registration begins at the Seaburn Centre from 9.15am and teams must register to take part. Costume judging will take place from 10.15am.
Dippers will form a procession from the Seaburn Centre into the sea at 11am.
