The art piece, which will project over the cliff-edge of the Vaux site and span down onto land by the riverside, has been developed by the company, working with designers and architects on behalf of Sunderland City Council.

In a video clip produced by Siglion, the inspiration behind The Launch becomes clear - it is a testament to the "hardworking hands" and "maritime marvels" of Sunderland's history.

The footage takes us on a trip down the River Wear's memory lane, and explains how the sculpture will become iconic to Sunderland's future.
