LATEST NEWS: Man dies after being hit by Sunderland to London train

A MAN has died after he was hit by a train.

Emergency services were scrambled to the line close to Hawthorn Dene Viaduct, near Easington Colliery, after the incident, which involved the 12.28 Sunderland to Kings Cross Grand Central service.

Paramedics were called in, but the man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police have said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

The line was reopened at 2.15pm.
