POLICE have launched an investigation after a body was found near a Wearside bridge.
Officers made the grim discovery at an industrial site underneath the Queen Alexandra Bridge, in Sunderland, shortly after noon on Monday.
Northumbria Police are currently carrying out inquiries into the man’s death.
A spokesman for the force said: “At this stage, we believe the man, who is thought to be in his 20s and from the Sunderland area, may have fallen from the bridge.
“Police are trying to put together the last known movements of the man and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man on the bridge in the early hours of Saturday, May 5, or anyone who might have any information that could help their inquiries.”
A post-mortem is being carried out to establish the cause of death.
