This weekend is your last chance to donate to the appeal, run in partnership with North East charity Hope 4 Kidz, which hopes to bring a smile to those children in our community most in need.

Christmas is such an exciting time of year and there is no greater joy than hearing the squeals of delight from excited children when they wake on Christmas morning to find their presents.

Sadly, many people in our community find this time of year very stressful as they are unable to provide any treats for their children.

Thanks to your donations some of these youngsters will wake on Christmas morning to a gift especially for them.

We have already received hundreds of gifts with many children’s charities and local women’s refuges benefiting from your generosity.

We are appealing for gifts suitable not just for young children but also young adults, who are often forgotten.

Donations, such as toys, clothing, smellies and chocolates, must be new and can be left at one of our many designated collection points: Morrisons, Seaburn and Doxford Park, Hays Travel, Santander, Virgin Money Fawcett Street, Virgin Money The Bridges, Tesco The Bridges, Wilkinsons, Sainsbury’s Silksworth and Wessington Way as well as Hope 4 Kidz office in Pennywell. Last day for donations is Monday, December 19.

One of the highlights of the appeal for youngsters is the Hope 4 Kidz Christmas party held in Illusions nightclub in Sunderland, thanks to Michael and Sharon Downey. The party is an opportunity for the youngster to escape the stresses and strains of their everyday life and have fun with others in a similar situation.
