Knockout event for tragic Grant

BOXING club members have vowed to raise money for the unborn child of a friend who died in a freak accident.

Grant Adams’s jugular was pierced when he fell into a sunbed at his South Shields home on Sunday. He was flown to Newcastle’s RVI but the 17-year-old, originally from Pennywell, died on Monday.

Now members at Horsley Hill Amateur Boxing Club –where Grant trained for the last two years – are organising a charity ‘press up’ event on Saturday, July 5.

The boxers aim to do 10,000 press ups in two hours, with money raised going to Grant’s partner Sharna Gardner, who is seven months’ pregnant with their baby.

Stevie Winter, boxing coach, said: “It’s such a tragic thing to have happened, especially to someone so young who was about to become a father.”
