BRAVE Kimberley Lomax burst into tears after being named this year’s Sunderland Young Achiever.

The 15-year-old won judges over after they heard how she cares for her mum Denise, her four-year-old sister and brothers aged 10 and 11, after Denise suffered a nervous breakdown.

Schoolgirl Kimberley, who has been a carer for eight years, looks after her siblings and also devotes her time to caring for her mum, who is now pregnant.

She scooped a double accolade at the Stadium of Light last night as she also picked up the Young Carer 15-20 award.

Kimberley, from Penshaw, said: “I just take it as my role and I would not be without my brothers and sister and seeing the smile on my mam’s face when she gets better.”

Kimberley joined a host of young people who were toasted as the pride of the city at the ceremony last night.
