Kids at a Sunderland nursery are putting those in need first

The children, staff and parents at Kids 1st Sunderland have made their first donation to Sunderland Elim Food Bank.

A donation station has been set up at the Ashbrooke nursery to help supply food to those in need.

The food bank is based at Sunderland Elim Pentecostal Church and gives emergency food and support to those in crisis within the community.

Staff and parents were encouraged to donate any non-perishable food items to the donation station and their generous nature quickly showed through, with the nursery reception quickly became full of tins of food.

Nursery staff used this as an opportunity to teach the nursery children about a range of topics such as charity and nutrition.

Manager Tracey Winter, said: “We are new to Sunderland, so we think that it is important to make links with the community.

“When we saw the brilliant work which Sunderland Elim do, we couldn’t wait to get involved.”

She added: “All of our families have been brilliant and we have been overwhelmed by their generosity.”

Food donated by Kids 1st Sunderland will go towards providing three days emergency food for people in need on Wearside.

The foodbank, based at the church in South Hill Crescent, is solely run by volunteers, who give up their time to give back to their local community.
