Kelly headed home a first-half equaliser after Notts striker Rachel Williams had given the visitors the lead in the Women's Super League clash, while both sides hit the woodwork in the second period.

Sunderland winger Beverly Leon was thwarted by the feet of Notts goalkeeper Megan Walsh, before opposite number Hilde Gunn Olsen kept the home side on level terms with saves from Jess Clarke and Williams.

Olsen again came to Sunderland's rescue to deny Leanne Crichton before Beth Mead and Abby Joice combined well down the left for Kelly to level the scores with a glancing header.

Notts went close to regaining the lead in the 59th minute when Clarke's effort struck the post, and substitute Bridget Galloway almost snatched a late winner on her debut for Sunderland when her lob shaved the post.
