Justice system fear over cuts in lawyers

FEARS have been raised over reports that the number of prosecution lawyers have been slashed.

Figures obtained by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism showed the CPS in England and Wales had lost 23 per cent of its barristers and 22 per cent of its solicitors over the past three years.

Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird today warned the criminal justice system will “fail” if courts do not get any extra money to carry out improvements.
