Junior cricket: Fletcher leads the way as Horden outgun Murton U15s

Horden beat Murton by 39 runs in the South East Division's W.A. Bennett Cup as the DCB U15 Junior Leagues continued this week.

Jay Fletcher (47), Tommy Best (38), Will Iceton (15) and Joe Pearson (14) led Horden to 141-5. Murton fell short on 102 all out, despite Jack Norman’s 38, and 11 from Daniel Cooke, as Best, Fletcher, Evan Roberts and Conner Stephenson all struck twice.

Seaham Harbour outgunned Peterlee by 28 runs.

Ben McKinney (31no, Jarryd Robinson (29) and Callum Hutchinson (13) helped Harbour make 89-4, with Carl Almond snaffling 3-10.

Peterlee responded on 61-9, Jack Spalding (13) and Luke Nesbitt (10no) top-scoring. Hutchinson, Rhys Slater and Bradley Fitzsimon took two wickets apiece.

Ryhope proved too strong for South Hetton.

Vaughn (52no) and Mendonca (43) helped Ryhope to 144-2 before Kirtley grabbed 3-6 as South Hetton replied with 63-7, Laundon making 29

In the Central Division’s Ken Ferguson Cup, Chester-le-Street (103-5) beat Durham City (99-5) by four runs, while Hetton Lyons (77-8) lost by eight wickets to Sacriston.

Washington enjoyed Finn Hebron’s unbeaten half-century as they totalled 110-5 against Sunderland, Adam Khan adding 18. Jamie Hair (3-16) and Harry Patterson (2-32) shone with the ball for the 10-man Ashbrooke side.

Matthew Walmsley (14) top-scored in Sunderland’s 44-9, with Sammy Singh Rai ending with five wicket for no runs in four incredible maiden overs.

Whitburn beat Felling (53-8) by eight wickets in the North East Division’s Don Lyons Trophy.
