The family of Nathan Cuthbertson are again preparing to take on Cuthy's 200, an annual fundraising cycle ride from Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire to Sunderland, in tribute to the brave paratrooper.

Nathan was just 19 when he was killed in a suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan in June 2008, and since then his family and friends have held an annual charity bike ride to raise cash for worthy causes in his memory.

His parents Tom and Carla, from Tunstall, are also part of the Brothers in Arms group which founded the memorial wall around Sunderland's cenotaph to remember those who lost their lives in recent conflicts, operations and training.

"We're keen for any new or old riders to take part this year," said Tom, 47, a paramedic. “The route is about 60 miles, it’s nice and scenic and a beautiful ride really.”

Cash raised from rides in previous years has gone to good causes including Brothers in Arms, as well as the Salvation Army in Sunderland, the Parachute Regiment Association, the Not Forgotten Association, and the A690 Youth Project.

"We want to help anybody who is in need really,” said Tom.
