Jogger suffers 'life-changing' injuries after being hit by lorry

Witnesses to a serious crash which saw a jogger hit by a lorry in East Boldon are being sought by Northumbria Police.

A 54-year-old man is in hospital with serious and potentially life-changing injuries after the incident on Monday, April 6 at around 10.10am.

Officers were called to Tile Shed Lane, East Boldon, after a jogger was struck by a flat-back lorry.

He was taken to hospital with mutiple injuries and the driver of the lorry was not hurt.

The injured man remains in hospital on Tuesday, April 7.

Sergeant Matt Sykes, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “This was a serious incident which has resulted in a man suffering multiple injuries.

“He remains in hospital and specialist officers are supporting his family at this time.

“A number of people stopped following the collision and a number of witnesses were spoken to by police.

“However, we would now urge anyone who has yet to come forward to do so.

“We would also like to hear from anybody who was in the area around that time and who might have dashcam footage.”

Witnesses who may have been in the area at the time, or who have footage which could assist with the investigation are being called upon to come forward.
