'It's a massive club' - new Sunderland No.9 Charlie Wyke eyes promotion as defender exits

New Sunderland No.9 Charlie Wyke is already eyeing promotion having sealed a three-year deal on Wearside.

The 25-year-old frontman joins Jack Ross' Black Cats revolution for an undisclosed fee from Bradford City on a night when it's one in, one out at the Stadium of Light, with Lamine Kone exiting on loan.

Wyke is Ross' 11th signing of a busy summer, which is likely to include yet more deals before next Thursday's summer transfer window closure.

"It’s a massive club," Middlesbrough-born Wyke said.

"And coming from the north east, I know exactly how much it means to people.

"The one thing that everybody wants here is promotion, so we have to get that and win as many games as we can.

"I can’t wait to get started.

"I’m delighted to get it over the line so that I can concentrate on my football again."

Wyke netted an impressive 16 goals for the Bantams last season, scoring 23 goals in total for the club in 62 appearances.

The striker started his career at his hometown club, progressing through the ranks at the Riverside Stadium, which included loan spells at Kettering Town, Hartlepool United and AFC Wimbledon, before securing a permanent move to Carlisle United and then on to Valley Parade.

Meanwhile, Kone has completed a move to RC Strasbourg.

The defender has signed a season-long loan with the French Ligue 1 side.
