The game at the Wham Stadium lasted just over 70 minutes before being brought to a halt, with the worsening weather conditions putting player's safety at risk.

Referee Oliver Langford brought proceedings to an end with the scores locked at 1-1, with Chris Maguire's strike for the Black Cats cancelled out by Connor Hall's scrappy finish.

@drsafc said: "surprised it actually started"

@safcfans added: "Match abandoned at 1-1 after 74 minutes. Conditions becoming very poor out there and ultimately player safety comes first. Shame. Big shame."

@davey_lad commented: "No way ref abandons that @ 0-1 He prayed for an equaliser and we delivered"
