MEET Lisa Lishman – Michaela Strachan’s number one fan.
The superfan’s house is crammed full of Michaela memorabilia, including signed photos, records, posters and even one of the TV presenter’s tracksuit tops.
Lisa’s 25-year obsession started when she wrote to the producers of dance TV show Hitman and Her.
Michaela was the only person who wrote back, sending a signed photo of herself.
“I’ve liked her ever since then,” said Lisa, of Shiney Row.
“She started writing back to me and has supported me a lot over the years.
“We write to each other because she lives in Cape Town now and I’ve met her four or five times.”
The 37-year-old, who has Asperger syndrome, said Michaela has been her rock over the years and has become like a sister to her, helping her through tough times with her condition.
Three years ago, when Lisa’s mum died, she put pen to paper and shared her pain with Michaela in a letter.
“Last year, Michaela was in South Shields doing an eco-friendly event and I went over with my dad,” Lisa said.
“The first thing Michaela did was turn to my dad and say ‘I’m sorry about your wife’. It was so lovely that she didn’t forget.
“To be honest, she’s helped me a lot over the years and she’s like a big sister who I tell everything to.”
Over the years, Lisa has collected hundreds of photos, including framed signed pictures, records Michaela released in the 80s that she signed specially for Lisa and the tracksuit top she wore on Go Getters.
“I’ve also got loads of birthday and Christmas cards she’s sent me from herself and her little boy as well,” said Lisa, who works as a chambermaid at the Seaton Lane Inn pub near Seaham.
“I’ve always admired the amount of jobs she’s done because she’s done so many different things throughout her life.
“She’s a real inspiration.”
