INVESTORS are reportedly queueing up to pump cash into Newcastle International Airport.

Ten expressions of interest are said to have been made in taking a 49 per cent share of the region’s biggest airport.

The majority is owned by seven North East councils.

Copenhagen Airports recently put its share up for sale.

In a recent parliamentary debate, Easington MP Grahame Morris said more needed to be done to support Newcastle International and Durham Tees Valley airports.

He said: “These airports have considerable potential as engines of sustainable economic growth.

“Newcastle International Airport supports 7,800 jobs.

“The benefits go not only to Newcastle, but to the whole North East region.”
