THOUSANDS of pounds worth of improvements to a road network are on the way.
Salford Estates, owner of Castle Dene Shopping Centre, in Peterlee, will invest £315,000 in improvements around the town centre during the next few weeks.
The work will see the car park near the Wilkinson store resurfaced and its entrance widened.
The road leading to Asda’s lower car park will also be resurfaced.
The work is expected to start in the next two weeks.
Salford Estates has pledged to make the funds available to upgrade the centre, after what they describe as years of under-investment by previous owners.
Spokeswoman Debbie Illingworth said: “We hope the new work will make our customers’ experience of the centre more enjoyable.
“This is further evidence of us backing our commitment to really invest in the centre of Peterlee, and make it a better centre for everyone.”
Salford Estates is one of three companies wanting permission from Durham County Council to build a new supermarket in Peterlee.
The others are North Blunts, which wants to build a Morrisons, and Tesco – both in Burnhope Way.
