ANGRY holidaymakers are taking legal action after falling ill in Spain.
Gary Stoker from Washington was on holiday in Torremolinos with his wife Margaret, brother Melvin and sister-in-law Veronica when he and Veronica became sick with gastric illness.
They suffered from sickness, diarrhoea, lethargy and fever during their week-long stay at the Marconfort Beach Club Hotel, which they say “ruined” their holiday.
Gary and his family stayed at the hotel between May 12 and May 19 this year.
He said: “We heard lots of people talking about sickness and diarrhoea, and one person we spoke to said that there was a stomach bug at the hotel.”
The 54-year-old added: “The hotel was far below the standards we were expecting of a four-star accommodation.
“The pool area was just filthy, and we had to wipe the sun beds ourselves with wet wipes before we could use them as they were so dirty.
“I reported my illness to the reception staff, who just apologised but did not offer any assistance.”
Travel law team expert Suki Chhokar, representing holidaymakers who have made claims to holiday companies against the Marconfort Beach Club Hotel, said: “There are strict health and hygiene standards in place in Spain to prevent food poisoning.
“But sadly, the conditions described to us raise serious questions about whether the standards were met. With this in mind, we will be thoroughly investigating the cause of our clients’ illnesses.”
Gary said: “We just want to know what caused us to fall ill, and hope steps are taken in future to prevent others falling ill.”
