International call-up for Sunderland quartet

Four of Sunderland's promising Under-23 players have been called up for international duty.

After this weekend's round of Premier League fixtures there is a two-week break for international games and four Sunderland youngsters will be representing their countries.

Six-time capped centre-back Sam Brotherton has been called into New Zealand’s senior squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifying double header against Fiji Saturday 25 March and Tuesday 28 March.

Promising winger Elliot Embleton has been named in Neil Dewsnip’s England under-18s squad for their upcoming fixtures in Qatar.

The 17-year-old, has impressed for the Under-23s this season and has also featured on the bench on the first team three times.

Dewsnip’s young guns will face Qatar on Wednesday 22 March and again on Friday 24 March before concluding their trip with a match against Saudi Arabia on Monday 27 March.

Meanwhile, livewire forward Joel Asoro has also been included in the Sweden Under-21 squad while goalkeeper Max Stryjek has received a call up to Poland’s Under-21s squad for the first time.
