COMMUNITY groups are being invited to dig into a gardening challenge.

The Civic Pride Team at Durham County Council is working with the 14 area action partnerships across the county to run the bulb-planting activities.

Schools, parish and town councils and clubs are being invited to take 200 bulbs and match that with 200 of their own to plant.

James Bennett, streetscene manager for the council, said: “Last year about 350 community groups and schools took part in the challenge and it really helped to brighten up their areas in the spring.”

It is hoped that the groups taking part will be inspired to get involved in other gardening and green activities.

Anyone who would like to register can call 03000 261 000 and can collect their allocation from Seaham Contact Centre, County Hall in Durham and Chester-le-Street customer access point.
