A RUGBY player is on the road to recovery after having to be airlifted to hospital with a neck injury that was at first feared serious.

Dan Jones, 23, was playing for the Houghton rugby side against Hartlepool Athletic at King George V playing field, in Hartlepool, when he was hurt landing awkwardly after a tackle.

Tests later revealed he had not suffered any serious damage, although it is understood the player has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Club secretary Ralph Johnson said: “Thankfully, it turned out to be a bruised neck and nothing was broken.”
