Football rivals Sunderland and Newcastle United are both set to help raise funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation after donating ‘incredible’ prizes to an auction.

The online auction, which is into its fourth year, features over 140 sporting and lifestyle lots.

Among them are prizes donated by Newcastle and Sunderland, meaning supporters can bid on match day and club experiences in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and three other charities.

Newcastle have donated a behind-the-scenes matchday experienced for their home game against Bournemouth at St James’s Park in March.

The prize is for four people, and will include meeting the players before the match for photographs and autographs, watching the game from the pitchside press box and then watching the manager’s press conference.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have donated a VIP stadium tour four four with club legends Jimmy Montgomery and Kevin Ball, followed by lunch with the former players in the boardroom.

There is also a shirt signed by manager Sam Allardyce and his squad, and a framed team photo.

The auction is under way, and will close on November 29.

Gina Long, the founder of the auction, said: “We’ve been absolutely stunned by the incredible prizes we’ve received for this year’s auction, especially from the football community.

“It says everything about how Sir Bobby is regarded within the game, and we’re very proud to have the support of so many clubs and football organisations.

“It takes a lot of effort from a lot of people to ensure the auction’s success, whether that’s donating prizes or raising awareness, it’s all vital.

“Now we’re well underway, we’re just so grateful to see the bids coming in.

“The money raised will make a huge difference to our charities and we’re all hoping come Sunday 29th when we close, we’ll be celebrating a big total raised.”

The first four online auctions raised £706,000 in total, and Gina is hoping to break through the £1million barrier this year.

One of the other prizes on offer is Lot 121, which has been donated by LG and offers a hospitality experience for the Boxing Day clash between Manchester City and Sunderland, including all beverages before and after the game, and a buffet.

There are a host of other football prizes on offer in the auction, which supports the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, League Manager’s Association Charity, West Suffolk Hospital Charity and the GeeWizz charitable foundation.
