Hundreds of people gathered at Seaham's Tommy statue today to pay their respects to those who fought and died for Britain.

Young and old alike gathered by the iconic soldier memorial to observe the two minutes' silence at 11am.

These pictures by Ceri Oakes capture the solemn and respectful mood of the occasion, as a town came out to mourn and say 'thank you'.
