Police investigating the circulation of counterfeit money in Sunderland have released an image of man they would like to trace.

On Monday, April 18, counterfeit Scottish £20 notes were used at four different premises in Sunderland.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are keen for the man pictured to get in contact as it's thought he was in the area at the time and may be able to help with enquiries.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Victoria Ford-Stubbs said: "We would continue to urge people to be vigilant to counterfeit money, in particular businesses and retailers when cash transactions are made.

"Detection pens and ultra violet devices should be used when notes are given and any notes which show to be counterfeit should not be accepted"
