Ice warning issued for North East

TEMPERATURES are continuing to plummet ahead of the weekend with the Met Office issuing a severe weather warning for ice.

A spokesman for the forecasters said: “Widespread icy patches are expected to develop during Friday morning. The public should be aware of the risk of ice on untreated surfaces following overnight rain.

“A band of rain will move east across northwestern UK during Thursday evening and Friday morning.

“Clear skies will follow allowing surfaces to fall below freezing, giving a risk of ice on untreated surfaces.”
