A family fun day at Hylton Castle proved a big hit.
Saturday’s event featured storytelling, castle tours and gave visitors the chance to look at proposed designs for the castle redevelopment.
Sunderland City Council’s portfolio holder for public health, wellness and culture, Coun John Kelly, said: “It was a great way of everyone finding out more about the ambitious plans we have for this magnificent location.
“On show were the plans for putting Hylton Castle back into the heart of the community. Working with partners, our aim is to turn a historic landmark into a community asset.
“This is a great opportunity to create a heritage-led learning centre.”
The council has joint funded the project along with a development grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Work is ongoing on another application for around £3million from the HLF.
