Huge turn out expected to celebrate life of Seaham girl Megan after T in the Park death
Hundreds of people are expected to say a final goodbye to a popular teenager after she died at a music festival.
Mourners at the funeral of Megan Bell have been asked to wear bright clothing for her funeral in her home town of Seaham tomorrow.
The 17-year-old former St Anthony’s Catholic Girls’ Academy student, who was due to begin work as a hairdresser, died at the T in the Park festival in Perthshire, Scotland, on Friday, July 8.
Her friends and family will gather at St Mary Magdalen Church in Harbour Walk at 11.30am, before she is laid to rest at Seaham Cemetery in Lord Byron’s Walk.
Megan’s relatives have asked donations in place of bouquets are given to the Just Giving page set up in her name.
The Flowers for Megan site was launched by family friend Laura Ward, 28, and has already raised more than £1,600, while a fundraising night to be held at Dawdon Social Welfare Club on Friday was a sell out within an hour.
A huge crowd turned out last Thursday evening on Seaham’s seafront, near to the marina, as people lit candles and released balloons in Megan’s favourite colours of blue and white.
Megan leaves parents Chris and Lisa, sisters Maddy and Jenny and brother Josh, grandparents Eddie and Jenny and Hughie and Alison, in addition to aunts and uncles.
In a statement released by Police Scotland, her parents said: “We are devastated at the tragic loss of our wonderful daughter Megan.
“Her death leaves an irreplaceable gap in our lives and she will be so sadly missed by all her family and friends.
“We would also like to thank everyone for the overwhelming number of flowers, cards and condolences sent to us as this very sad time.
“We would respectively ask that we are now left alone to come to terms with our grief.”
Megan and a 17-year-old boy from the west of Scotland died at the festival.
Inquiries have been carried out, but the deaths are not being described as suspicious.
