Senegalese international defender Papy Djilobodji, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, has signed a four-year deal at the club following an £8million move.

Having began his career in Senegal with ASC Saloum, the 27-year-old played the majority of his football in France with Nantes, before heading to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Djilobodji joined Chelsea for £4million but only made one appearance before spending the second half of last season on loan at Werder Bremen.

Plenty of supporters had their say on the new capture on the Echo's Facebook page.

Anthony Thompson wrote: "Prefer a right back and forward, do we need him with Kone, Kaboul and O'Shea?"

Lewis Barker said: "Is no-one ever happy?! Everyone complains when we don't sign anyone and when we do they whinge about the position or they've never heard of them, we're an average premier league team not Man City or Arsenal?"

Deborah B Bailey wrote: "Not an expert but - I know enough to see that defenders are good, though we need scorers too. Can't just rely on stopping the opposition, we also need to push forward."

A sceptical Michael Thwaites wrote: "Sorry never heard of him."

Commenters also shared their opinions on the Echo website.

Ftm25roker wrote: "Add M'Vila, Yedlin and Sakho and things are looking good, all big strong physical and quick players."

Canis Lupis wrote: "Good to see a breakthrough at last but £8 million is some price for a bloke with one PL appearance under his belt. He was clearly not good enough for Chelsea, hope our lads have done their homework well."
