A youngster who has spent his short life in and out of hospital battling a genetic disorder is to be given a helping hand by a kind-hearted businessman.

Stan Yanetta has become famous for turning his house into a Haunted Halloween Spectacular for children to enjoy and to raise funds for good causes.

This year, he has chosen one-year-old Joseph Lovely to be the beneficiary of any money raised when he opens up his garden to youngsters on October 31.

Joseph was born with Cystic Fibrosis and within days underwent an operation for a perforated bowel.

He required six months of intense treatment and relies heavily on medication and physiotherapy.

On a daily basis he takes 12 different types of medication and is on nebulisers and inhalers in order to help him breathe.

Being able to get this vest for him would mean everything to us.

Joseph, who is also prone to infections, is under specialist care at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for his condition.

His family are currently trying to raise £7,000 to help pay for a special inflatable vibrating vest which would help make breathing easier for him.

Mum Rachel, 27, said: “Joseph has to have physio everyday to help clear the mucus from his chest so that he can breathe.

“It is so traumatic for both of us, as it is like I’m pinning him down and beating his chest - it’s horrible.

“This vest would help shift the mucus and would mean his quality life would be so much better. Being able to get this vest for him would mean everything to us.

“We have had a few good months with him where things have been okay, but when things are bad we can be in and out of hospital with him daily.”

Through fundraising events, the family, from South Hylton, Sunderland, has raised almost half of the total amount needed.

Mr Yanetta, who owns Stans Autos in Commercial Road, South Shields, said: “Every year I raise money through the haunted house. I was approached by Joseph’s granda and he told me about Joseph.

“I hadn’t chosen a cause to raise money for, so I said I would raise money for Joseph.

“The Halloween event is brilliant and we always have a good turnout on the night and the kids really enjoy themselves.”

The Haunted Halloween spectacular will take place on October 31 at Stan’s home in Heaton Gardens, South Shields.

The event will run from 5pm with donations going to Joseph’s fund.
