South Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck accepted a cheque for £4,000 at Trinity South Shields from Keepmoat Homes’ Land and Partnerships Director Ian Prescott – to support the work of homelessness charity Depaul UK.

Mrs Lewell-Buck said: “I am delighted to accept this generous donation from Keepmoat Homes, which is the proceeds of its 20th anniversary gala, to support young people affected by homelessness through Depaul UK, a charity which does wonderful work in my constituency.”

Erin Parker, senior project worker at Depaul UK’s Jigsaw Project, in South Shields, said: “We are very grateful for this kind donation which comes as our second piece of good news this week.

“Depaul UK and other local charities, working together as a consortium to meet the needs of vulnerable young people in South Tyneside, have also secured a contract to support young people at risk of homelessness.”

The contract will be delivered in partnership with South Tyneside Churches’ KEY Project, and provides for a community-based support and homelessness prevention service.

It will ensure young people and their families receive help in repairing relationships with family members, and providing the support to find and keep a home.

Erin added: “This donation will help us refurbish a hub which offers a property brokerage service and regular training programmes to prepare vulnerable young people for work and training.”
