Speaker at the Rotary Club was member Ray Smith with a talk about the heroic actions of the 2nd Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry in the Second World War, illustrated by the book still available, Forgotten and More 1944.
The coffee mornings with book sale continue throughout the summer season in St Michael’s Church hall, Newbottle, each Thursday from 9.30am to 11.30am with many good books available at attractive prices.
Music and singing by Stewart Cameron and Paul Malcolm will be the entertainment at Houghton Older People’s Enterprise in the Methodists Church hall at 1pm on Thursday.

Houghton Racecourse Community Association holds Sit and Be Fit courses every two weeks at 9.30am, with the next session on Monday, August 22, and new members would be most welcome. New members would also be welcome to their carpet bowls sessions, weekly on Mondays at 7pm.
