Members of the past Round Tablers 41 Club paid a visit to the Maxim Brewery in Rainton Bridge Industrial Estate to make a presentation to managing director Mark Anderson in thanks for his support and help in organising the recent successful Beer Festival which, when all finances are completed, will provide £5,000 to be shared between The Great North Air Ambulance and St Benedict’s Hospice funds.
Although some of the groups that use Houghton Methodists Church hall are now closed for a summer recess, the regular coffee mornings continue throughout the summer on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with an additional one on Thursdays, where the proceeds are donated to a different church each week. There is also a short service for shoppers at 10.30am on Tuesdays. All denominations are welcome.
Houghton Older People’s Enterprise will meet in the Methodist Church hall at 1pm on Thursday. Entertainment will be provided by the Happy Daze musical group.
Houghton and District Rambling Club will be walking around Skelwith Bridge on Sunday with the coach leaving the Broadway in front of St Michael’s Parish Church at 8.30am. Further details from leader K Hardy on 5842073 or secretary John Conder on 385 6551.

At the Rotary Club fifth Wednesday Guest Night Dinner with wives and friends in the Chilton Country Hotel watched an excellent DVD of a performance by excellent and talented Houghton Area Youth Band, which the club supports.
